Ice Prevention System

The basic principle of the Topwind IPS is fundamentally different from the conventional ice detection systems. Topwind IPS is unique because it is capable of pre-emptively shutting down the turbine to prevent ice from building up on the blades.It is better to prevent ice buildup than to detect ice on the blades. The unique feature of the IPS ensures the best possible safety with lower production losses than other systems.

How it works

  • Measures important weather variables including air temperature and humidity

  • Analyses the data and calculates the chances of ice forming

  • Sends alarms to the operational manager with four alarm phases depending on the severity of the situation. The alarm phase settings can be adjusted to the site specific requirements.

  • Recommends a stop for the operator or stops the wind turbine automatically.

  • Sends out a signal when you can safely activate the wind turbine.

  • Turbine start after remotely visual inspection of the turbine blades.
